What is counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity to find understanding and move towards change. By talking with a counsellor, who has the skills and training to listen and explore with you what might be difficult and confusing, it can all begin to make sense and give you the potential to take control and make differences to your life. The NHS web site describes the benefits of the talking therapies:

“Talking therapies can help all sorts of people in many different situations. Research shows that talking therapies work just as well whether you’re old or young, male or female, white or black, gay or straight, working class or middle class. Your educational background makes no difference either………. Talking therapy is for anyone who’s going through a bad time or who has emotional problems they can’t sort out on their own. Sometimes it’s easier to talk to a stranger than to relatives or friends. During talking therapy, a trained therapist listens to you and helps you find your own answers to problems, without judging you. The therapist will give you time to talk, cry, shout or just think. It’s an opportunity to look at your problems in a different way with someone who’ll respect and encourage your opinions and the decisions you make.” www.nhs.uk/Conditions/stress-anxiety-depression/Pages/benefits-of-talking-therapy.aspx

Counselling and psychological therapies through the NHS can be for a limited time and may not be available in your area. Counsellors and Psychotherapists in private practice fill that gap, providing therapy very quickly and for as long as needed.

“We understand that sometimes counselling with your NHS therapist may have been very helpful and you would have liked to continue, but, the number of sessions has come to an end. We can help”.
